Collection of Written Responses
For the final of artgr510 we were required to collect our responses and assemble them in a way that reflects our personal definitions of graphic design. To me, graphic design should make matter accessible, but good graphic design should make content equitable. What this means in the scope of this collection of responses is that the format should be low–cost, easily reproducible, easily distributed, simple to comprehend, etc. I chose two formats— a two–sided, 18" x 24" poster, and a 10–panel pamphlet.
The poster contains faces of each writer from Helen Armstrong’s, Graphic Design Theory, as well as my responses to readings from that book. Here, the text works mostly as a textural element, allowing the faces of the designers to become the main focus.
The pamphlet serves almost purely as a reading material, with the faces serving as a cover.
